My Palace

Daniel Kazimierski: The Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw

“To many people, the Palace of Culture and Science, which was “given” to Warsaw by Stalin, is a symbol of the Communist era in Poland.
While that is true, in my childhood, it was a wonderful, happy place.
It was an escape from the gray poverty we endured.
There, I and my friends learned to make model airplanes and saw our first movies,
and, at Christmas, received the precious gift of a fresh orange.
In 2008, I was invited to Poland to take pictures and write a memoir for the book, My Palace.”

A book of the Palace pinhole photographs is available through Daniel Kazimierski’s publications page.
