Page Simon / Fragments from Ground Zero

“Rockland Community College, where I was teaching on September 11, 2001, was given fragments of I-beams from Ground Zero to use as part of a sculpture commemorating that tragic event. Rockland County, north of the city on the west side of the Hudson, was home to many of the policemen and firemen, workers  and civilians who died that day.

I designed the garden, and Eric David Laxman combined the four steel pieces with marble to create a center sculpture. The tortured, rusted steel held traces of all the pain.

Part of the proceeds from any sales of these images will be donated to scholarships at Rockland Community College for degree programs that train first responders such as policemen, firemen, and emergency medical technicians.”
